Wolves of the Calla

Wolves of the Calla

The Ka-tet resumes their journey and arrives at Calla Bryn Sturgis, a farming community terrorized by "Wolves"—robotic raiders who appear once a generation to steal children. The townsfolk ask the Gunslingers for protection. Amidst the preparation for battle, the group encounters Father Callahan (from Salem's Lot), and they discover that the Rose - the Tower's representation in our world - is in danger in 1977 New York, requiring them to go "todash" to save it.

Short Review

Wolves of the Calla is King’s homage to The Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven, blended with heavy sci-fi elements. It marks the point where the series begins to aggressively integrate King’s other works and pop culture (including Doctor Doom robots and Harry Potter references "snitches") into the text. The action is expertly choreographed, and the ethical dilemma of the town adds weight to the shootout. The return of Father Callahan is a treat for Constant Readers, bridging the gap between King’s horror roots and his fantasy epic. The result is a dense, plot-heavy installment that sets up the frantic pace of the final act.
