Short Review
Foundation and Earth is the grand unification of Asimov’s literary universe. While structured as a travelogue that can feel repetitive at times, the visits to the ruins of the Spacer worlds provide a haunting archaeology of human history. The novel is less about the Foundation and more about the ultimate destiny of intelligence in the universe. The conclusion is controversial and deeply philosophical, tying up loose ends regarding the role of robots in human history. It works as the final chronological chapter, offering a sweeping, if somber, resolution to thousands of years of future history.
